| Alright let me just say that by me writing on a blog "blahhhh"... I must be annoyed, excited, upset about something. That something is the decision to stop production/print of "The Boys" by Garth Ennis. I do not claim nor pretend to be a loyal or avid reader of your weekly comic releases. I'm more of a "collector" of rare, harder to find issues from the silver-age; I do get excited walking by my bookshelve and seeing the 1st appearance of Juggernaut or 101 Phoenix, however the stories are often cheesy and shallow(Don't get me wrong I still love opening up the books and looking at original Lee and Kirby work, especially their sheesy comments to writers from 1965). Anyway, recently I was turned on to Garth Ennis (started with Punisher MAX and then tore through reprints of Preacher). Completely blown away does not come close to my reaction. With all of these borrowed books I had no choice but to take off of work or work "from home" to read and re-read these series... bottom line, anyone that reads it will be blown away with the storyline, artwork, and all-around ridiculous imagination. If you love Quentin Tarrantino's "True Romance", I highly recommend reading the Preacher. Shit, I had no idea this sort of work even existed especially mainstream and I guess it explains why Hollywood is still trying to remake every damn superhero movie out there (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0498278/ Scroll down to filmography pre and post-production titles). *burp*... starting to wonder off topic (drank allot of wine)... Back to the original purpose of this post... So I get into this series called "The Boys" that a couple of awesome dudes let me borrow and I seriously could not put them down. I just got back from this comic store I happened to walk by in Union Square (Forbiddenplanet) that I had no farcking clue existed. I begged my wonderful girlfriend (moonbunny) to give me at least 20 minutes to look around before we went to dinner and she said "SURE!!!!" HOLY SHIT. I quickly run over to the Garth Ennis, Dillon, Miller sections and come to find out that DC is shutting down "The Boys" series after the sixth release because of its obscene and innapropriate content... HUHHH-WTF does that mean? Of Course the last issue released, #6 (which I am dying to read), was released but has been flying off out of stock because of the whole controvery bullshit. I was told "sold out - may or may not get more". I immediately hit the web for fear it will not come back and I cannot find a single copy online without paying quadruple the price and having it shipped from the UK - Did I already say how fucking pissed off I am. Anyway, I did some research online and supposedly John Woo (kinda getting tired of him, sorry if I have offended anyone, but his shit is getting old; comics may be a good creative outlet for him instead of whoring his work in the states),Garth Ennis, and Dave Stewart (? just odd) are in talks to create a new company called Virgin that will continue with the series. (http://www.wizarduniverse.com/magazine/wizard/002581875.cfm). If someone has a local store that is getting regular weekly shipments, I would be very willing to pay extra for a copy of "The Boys 6" along with any shipping costs.... I will finish my night by reading "A Man Called KEV" (guess who writes it?) and hope it is as good as the fucker who showed it to me in the store... Later, |
